‘…Art is an inherent part of life, it mustn’t be brought
to the level of a myth or put onto any pedestal’, - says
Uve Jonas, an artist and curator from Berlin that will
visit Yekaterinburg to partake in Days of Germany in Russia.
From 31 August to 10 September within the course of Days of
Germany in Yekaterinburg will work with Yekaterinburg artists
to carry out a week long workshop in the space of
Verkh-Isetsky living area. Among the participants are artists
that are famous in and out of Yekaterinburg, such as Sergey
Laushkin, Anatoly Vyatkin, Natalya Khokhonova, performer
Ekaterina Zharinova as well as young artists, Sergey Rogozhkin,
Slava PTRK, Ilya Mozgi, Stepan Tropin that have been actively
involved in public art for a few years now. With about 20
artist participating in the project, we will also see some
fresh new faces. Results of this team-work, art objects
(interventions into city spaces) will be seen throughout
the area. Also an exhibition will be held at Verkh-Isetsky
Culture and Arts Centre (Subbotnikov sq. 1)
from 20 to 29 September.

In the course of the workshop we are planning to hold three lections
for all comers on public art, its role and development in
Berlin – by Uve Jonas, in Upper Austria - by Norbert Artner,
another guest lecturer, and in Yekaterinburg – by Street-Art agency.
Lections will dwell on the subject of history of the place,
its present state and opportunities for development. The final
act of the project, a round-table discussion on ‘Public art and
space development’ will be held on 20 September before
the opening of the final exhibition.
